This award recognises transformative airport expansion projects that increase capacity, improve efficiency, and enhance passenger experience. From new terminals and runway extensions to integrated expansion masterplans, the award celebrates projects that balance scale and complexity with innovation and sustainability.
Open to completed projects in the last five years. Each application should be accompanied by different photographs of the project as part of the supporting evidence.
Airside Project of the Year
This category celebrates outstanding projects that have transformed airside operations and infrastructure, demonstrating technical excellence, innovation, and efficiency in delivery. Eligible projects can include runways, taxiways, aprons, airfield lighting, and safety-critical systems, with a focus on solutions that enhance operational resilience, capacity, and sustainability.
Open to completed projects within the past five years, this award recognises the very best in airside design and construction. Each application should be accompanied by different photographs of the project within the supporting evidence.
Airport of the Year
This category celebrates airports that have demonstrated excellence in operations, passenger experience, sustainability, and innovation. Open to airports of all sizes globally, the award recognises those that deliver outstanding performance while balancing operational efficiency, environmental responsibility, and community engagement.
Aviation SME of the Year
This award celebrates the achievements of small and medium-sized enterprises (up to 250 employees) that are making a significant impact in the airport sector. SMEs play a vital role in delivering innovation, flexibility, and specialist expertise, and this award recognises those that punch above their weight in terms of influence and results.
Aviation Contractor of the Year
This category recognises contractors that have delivered outstanding performance in the airport sector. Whether through construction projects, specialist delivery, or innovative methods, the award celebrates those who bring technical excellence, efficiency, and innovation to the delivery of aviation infrastructure.
Aviation Consultant of the Year
This award celebrates consultancy firms that have demonstrated exceptional leadership, innovation, and technical expertise in the delivery of airport projects worldwide. From planning and design to strategic advisory, this category recognises the vital role consultants play in shaping the future of aviation infrastructure.
Best New Airport Design Award
This award celebrates outstanding airport designs that set new benchmarks for architecture, engineering, sustainability, and passenger experience. This category recognises projects that combine world-class design with functionality, efficiency, resilience or the integration of next generation aviation infrastructure.
Eligible projects can be planned, under construction, or completed in the last five years. Each application should be accompanied by different photographs of the project.
Best Technology for Aviation Infrastructure
Technology is transforming the way airports and aviation infrastructure are designed, delivered, and operated. This award celebrates the most impactful solutions that have driven measurable improvements in safety, efficiency, passenger experience, or sustainability. Judges will be looking for examples of technologies that have been successfully deployed to solve critical challenges, unlock new capabilities, or create significant operational and commercial benefits.
This category is open to technology providers, consultants, contractors, and airport operators who can demonstrate the effective use or development of technology within an airport infrastructure context. Eligible entries include solutions that have been implemented in the last five years or are currently in development. Submissions should highlight both the innovation behind the technology and the tangible results achieved in the aviation sector.
Emerging Leader in Aviation Infrastructure Engineering
The future of the aviation sector relies on the next generation of engineers who bring fresh perspectives, innovative thinking and a commitment to excellence. This award recognises an individual who has made a standout contribution to the planning, design, construction or operation of airport infrastructure in the first 5 years of their career in the aviation sector. Judges will be looking for emerging leaders who demonstrate technical ability, leadership qualities and the potential to shape the future of the industry.
Entries should highlight the individual’s achievements to date, their ability to inspire others, and how they are helping to drive positive change across the aviation infrastructure community.
Health, Safety & Risk Management Award
Airports present complex operational environments where health, safety and risk management are of critical importance. This award recognises organisations, projects or initiatives that have demonstrated excellence in protecting people, assets and operations through effective leadership, systems, and innovation. Judges will be looking for entries that show how risks have been anticipated, managed and mitigated to deliver safe and reliable outcomes.
This category is open to airport operators, contractors, consultants, suppliers and project teams. Eligible entries include projects or initiatives completed in the last five years or currently in progress. Submissions should highlight how proactive safety culture, innovative tools or processes, and robust risk management have created safer, healthier and more resilient airport environments.
Innovation in Airport Engineering
Airports face complex challenges that demand new thinking in design, construction and operation. This award recognises engineering-led innovation that has delivered a step-change in how airport projects are conceived or delivered. Judges will be looking for bold ideas and practical applications that have resulted in improved outcomes for clients, passengers, and the wider aviation industry.
This category is open to engineering innovations applied within the last five years, or those still in development but with clear potential to transform airport infrastructure. Entries can be drawn from design, planning, construction or operational phases and should showcase how engineering excellence has solved a specific challenge, delivered efficiency, or set a new benchmark for the sector.
Outstanding Contribution to the Industry
This award recognises an individual who has made a lasting and transformative impact on the aviation and airport infrastructure sector. It celebrates those whose career achievements, leadership and vision have significantly advanced the industry, whether through pioneering projects, innovation, advocacy, or sustained commitment to excellence. Judges will be looking for a body of work that demonstrates influence, legacy and a positive difference for clients, colleagues and communities.
Open to senior leaders, technical experts and industry champions, this award honours individuals whose contribution extends beyond their own organisation. Entries should highlight achievements across a career, showcasing not only personal excellence but also the ability to inspire, mentor and drive progress across the wider aviation industry.
Project Team of the Year
Successful airport projects are delivered through collaboration, shared purpose and a commitment to excellence. This award recognises the project team that has demonstrated outstanding teamwork, integration and performance in delivering an airport-related scheme. Judges will be looking for entries that show how individuals and organisations worked together to overcome challenges, achieve ambitious goals and deliver positive outcomes for clients, stakeholders and passengers.
This category is open to multi-disciplinary teams working on airport projects that have either been completed in the last five years or are currently in progress. Submissions should highlight how the team fostered collaboration, aligned objectives, and delivered innovation, efficiency and measurable impact throughout the lifecycle of the project.
Renewal, Refurbishment & Maintenance Award
This category celebrates projects that extend the life, efficiency, and performance of existing airport infrastructure through refurbishment, renewal, or maintenance. From terminal refurbishments and runway resurfacing to modernisation of critical systems, this award recognises the value of strategic reinvestment in assets to deliver operational and environmental benefits.

Social Value & Community Impact

Judges will be looking for evidence of initiatives that improve lives, build stronger communities, and deliver genuine social value in line with the needs of people and places impacted by airport development.
This category is open to airport operators, contractors, consultants, suppliers and project teams who can demonstrate clear social outcomes. Eligible entries include projects completed within the last five years or under construction. Submissions should highlight how the work has supported employment, skills, wellbeing, inclusivity, and/or wider social and economic opportunities.
Supplier of the Year
Airports depend on a diverse and reliable supply chain to deliver the products, services and expertise that keep projects and operations running smoothly. This award recognises a supplier that has made the greatest impact in the airport sector, demonstrating outstanding performance, responsiveness and innovation.
Judges will be looking for entries that showcase not only technical excellence and reliability, but also proactive approaches to collaboration and long-term value.
This category is open to suppliers of any discipline working within the airport industry, including technology providers, equipment manufacturers and service partners. Entrants should use examples from recent airport-related work to highlight how they have exceeded expectations and delivered measurable benefits for clients.
Sustainable Engineering & Construction Award
This award aims to recognise outstanding engineering or construction initiatives that have raised the bar for sustainability, whether through innovative design, efficient construction methods, or low-carbon technologies. Judges will be looking for evidence of measurable impact and pioneering approaches that demonstrate how sustainability has been embedded from concept through to delivery.
This category is open to airport-related projects, programmes or initiatives that have either been completed within the last five years or are currently in development. Entries should highlight how the project team tackled environmental challenges, drove efficiency and innovation, and contributed to wider climate and net-zero targets, while also ensuring economic viability and social benefit.
Transport Integration Award
This award recognises projects that successfully integrate airports with wider transport networks, enhancing accessibility and passenger experience. Eligible projects include rail links, metro systems, road improvements, and intermodal hubs that strengthen connectivity between airports and the regions they serve.

Sister events
Once again supported by the editorial partnership of Construction News , Ground Engineering and New Civil Engineer to champion the role of women in construction and engineering. Following the success of 2025, the three publications will work together to provide networking opportunities and learning resources to help women make career progress and celebrate organisations being great places to work for women.

Entries from across the sector were reviewed by an independent panel of more than 80 experts—including clients, academics and professional bodies—who selected the outstanding projects, teams and organisations that make up this year’s shortlist.
The Awards for 2026 are returning for their 39th year. They celebrate and honour the outstanding contributions of the British construction industry to society.
